Dryer Vent Pumpkins

Fall makes me happy. I have especially learned to appreciate it while living in Denver. Driving home from work this morning, my view of the snow capped Rockies behind the yellowing trees was breathtaking! 

To "celebrate" fall I decided to do another fall related craft project that I found online. Last month I made Framed Pumpkins that I thought turned out really cute! I think I like these dryer vent pumpkins even more! This is the first year I have ever even cared about fall decorating. I think it means I am getting old. I guess if getting old means fall decorating, kitchen shopping, baking, and random craft projects, then that is ok with me!

To make these cute pumpkins you will need:

• Paint in whatever colors you like! I chose three colors because I wanted to make 3 solid-colored pumpkins.

• Spanish/American Moss or any other "grassy" topping for the pumpkins.

 

• Dryer Vents. I bought two different sizes so that I would have 2 different sized pumpkins, but you can definitely only get one size if you want! We got our 3 inch and 4 inch dryer vents from Home Depot. These were a little more expensive that I thought they would be at a little over $10 a piece.

  

• I used cinnamon sticks for the stem but you could probably use any piece of wood/stick you can find!

• Glitter spray paint is optional. I wanted mine to be sparkly because I am obsessed with anything sparkly, but if sparkles aren't your thing they would be just as cute with the colored paint only! 

You will also need:

A hot glue gun

A paint brush

Wire Cutters

Scissors

Getting Started:

Open your dryer vent package/s and pull out just enough so that you are able to twist it back into a round shape to form the pumpkin. Then, remembering where you bent it back to, cut your piece from the rest of the vent. Do this for however many pumpkins you want to make. You can use regular scissors to cut the aluminum part and you will need wire cutters for the wire.

Then you want to bend them back to their pumpkin shape and hot glue the ends together. Be careful doing this, the wire gets hot once the glue is applied! Be sure to hold them together for a bit before letting go so that they stay glued!

Now's the time to paint! I did mine all solid colors, but be creative! It takes 2 coats in some places to cover up the silver and I didn't fully paint the bottoms just to make it go by a little faster. If you want to do glitter, go ahead and do that too once the base paint is dry.

Then insert the stem down into the middle. I didn't glue mine because the tension of the vent held it in, but you can if you want to.

Then just place the grass around the top! I had to play with it a little to get it to stay where I wanted it and you can tuck it in around the stem to help with that. This isn't absolutely necessary, I just thought it looked kind of bare on top with nothing.

All done!
