Garrett's 25th Birthday Weekend

October 29th is a great day. 

It marks the day that Garrett and I become the same age each year and he can no longer tease me for being 25 when he is 24. It's also a great day just for the fact that it is Garrett's birthday.

Saturday night we went out for drinks at a local brewery then to his birthday dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Our dinner was delicious, our waiter looked like Michael C. Hall from Dexter, and we got a free Chocolate Thunder from Down Under brownie.

Sunday night we went to the Broncos Vs. Saints game. It was awesome! The Saints, Garrett's team, ended up losing but we still had fun. I wish we could get season tickets! We both play fantasy football and it was cool seeing some of our players actually playing.

 Ps. This week I played Garrett in fantasy football and I won! I'm #1 in our league! : )

Drew Brees!

I wore two shirts to keep warm, a Broncos one with a Saints one over it. G wouldn't have allowed it the other way around. Oh, and we all got pink pom poms!

Jumpers landed onto the field way too fast and were fun to watch.

Jack Ingram sang the Star Spangled Banner which was weird because we both grew up listening to him. He is a Texas country singer. Very random!

 Sunday after the game we went to Challengers, a local bar and grill that has the BEST pizza!

Shout out to my blogging friend Faith for talking about Blue Hawaiin's!! Because of you, I ordered one and LOVED it! Definitely my new favorite drink!

On Monday, Garrett's actual birthday, we did nothing exciting. We had dinner at Jason's Deli and I baked a buttermilk pie for G. We were lazy and it was great!

Chili Queso

Happy Friday!! : )

Garrett's birthday is this Monday so we are super excited to celebrate this weekend. We are going to the Saints Vs. Broncos game this Sunday!! SO SO EXCITED! Garrett's team is the Saints so I know he is pumped up about it. I can't wait!

Also, this week we had our first real snow! It was only 2 inches or so, but transformed our apartment complex into a winter wonderland for a day and a half. It's slowly melting now, sadly.

Anyways, I don't know about y'all, but Garrett and I eat at Chili's alot. And they have the yummiest queso! A couple of weeks ago I decided to try and make a copycat recipe at home and it turned out really delicious and really simple. Definitely worth a try!

What you need:

8oz of Velveeta Cheese

1 can of Chili (with or without beans)

Chips for dipping (Fritos are best!)

What to do:

Cut up the cheese into big chunks and put inside of a microwave safe bowl

Pour the chili on top.

Microwave for 1 and a half minutes and then stir.

 Keep doing this until all the cheese is melted and the chili and cheese are well mixed.

Very easy and very yummy! And especially good when football is on! : )

Many Moments Ago Monday

Hi friends! : )

The other day I was thinking, "I haven't blogged in awhile, but really, I have nothing to blog about."

 That happens to me alot. I become bored with the same old recipe posts, weekend posts, and whatever else I post about and then I just abandon my blog all together.

Does this ever happen to you?

During that thought process, I remembered a night 2 years ago that was awesome that I have never blogged about. 

So instead of "Throwback Thursday" this is going to be "Many Moments Ago Monday".

 Did you like that? I  made it up.

Anyways, in 2010, Garrett and I went to Boulder to watch Bob Saget's live stand up. He was hilarious.

 As well as inappropriate. If you keep up with my blog you know that I LOVE Full House. It's, to this day, my favorite. Bob Saget was nothing like Danny Tanner.

He even made a joke that he and Kimmy Gibbler had sex backstage. EW.

 

 He played guitar and sang silly, and probably gross, lyrics along with it. 

It was wonderful.

We had a great time and laughed our hearts out. If we could go again we would love to! 

Fast forward to the awesome part....

Sitting two rows ahead of us was this guy.

If you don't watch the Food Network you probably have no idea who this is. This is Guy Fieri, as in the host of Diner's, Drive In's, and Dives!! 

Bob Saget AND Guy Fieri? We were excited.

After the show, we went around the back of the venue where we thought they might be exiting to get into their limo's, and waited to see if they would come out so we could meet them.

Turns out Guy was in town to film an episode of Diner's, Drive In's, and Dives, and likes Bob Saget's standup so he went to the show.

And we got to meet him!

He was really nice and friendly and actually called us over to talk after we had met him.

And then......

Suspense.....

I got to meet Bob Saget AKA Danny Tanner!!!!

He was tired and ready to get the hell out of there but was still nice enough to take some pictures and autograph some things for people. If he only knew how many times I have seen each episode of Full House...

I couldn't shut up on the way back to Denver. I was so excited!

So, that's my "Many Moments Ago Monday" story.

No More 5:30am!! : (

Yes, you read that title correctly. And yes, it's confusing and weird. 

 Why? 

Because I feel mixed emotions that last Friday was my last 5:30am shift at work.

I feel super happy that I no longer have to be up at the horrible hour of 4:30am (or as Brittany said it, "in the 4's)  in order to be at work. Looking back, I can't believe that I did that for over a year. I am SO not a morning person!

I also feel a little sad because with changing my shift comes changing where I will be working. I guess the "where" isn't as important as the "who". Let me explain...

For the past year I have been working at Excelsior Youth Center, which is a residential treatment center for teenaged girls who have been abused. I was lucky and got to work with the younger girls, 11 to 13 years old. I arrive at 5:30am and do a bunch of paper work and prepare for the morning. I had to wake up all 11 of the girls, tell them to shower/brush their teeth a hundred times, serve them breakfast, and get them ready for school that day. I guess I should mention that I didn't do this alone, I had wonderful coworkers.

 My shift has always been very structured but the girls always managed to find the time to act silly and make my shift fun. Not to say there weren't a couple of awful mornings when it seemed every single one of them were acting out, but we managed! 

Over the past year I learned to love all of the girls and truly care about their well being as they did mine. I have a couple of favorites that I want so badly to talk about, but since it is a treatment center their names have to remain anonymous. Two girls in particular really touched my heart and I don't think I will ever forget them or the impact they have had on me. It's crazy what a little girl can go through at such a young age and still be sweet, funny, smart, adorable, and pleasant to be around. Those girls are survivors! 

I am still working at EYC, but not with the same girls every day. I will now have a chance to work with all age groups and not at 5:30am! : ) I know it will take getting used to not seeing "my" girls every day, but the days that I do get to work with them will be that much more exciting!

Zerosun, the company Garrett works for, made a video about a year ago for Excelsior so I'm attaching it here. It's a great video and will give you a little better idea of how Excelsior works. Also, it shows just how talented those Zerosun boys are! : )
