Our Weekend

Hi sweet friends!

How were your weekends?
 I hope you all had great weekends, I can't wait to catch up on them!

This weekend Garrett and I had a fair mixture of laziness and activeness. To me, those are the best weekends. You know, when you don't feel too lazy but you still have time to relax?

Saturday we slept in and then drove West to the Rockies. That is one of my favorite things about living in Denver, drive West 30 minutes and you are in the mountains! The weather was perfect this weekend, so we decided late Friday evening that we wanted to have a much needed Rocky Mountain picnic/hike.

We kept it classy with bologna sandwiches!

After our picnic/hike we drove through Evergreen, CO and stopped at a museum. It was closed, but there were cool things outside of the museum to take pictures of. So I did.

 {Thanks babe for being a good sport with all of the pictures I wanted to take!}

When we got home Saturday evening we were pretty much just lazy the rest of the night.

Sunday we went for a walk on the Cherry Creek trail and then played tennis. Y'all. I beat Garrett in tennis!! Yes, I'm rubbing it in, I never win! We grilled burgers and had drinks at home, it was so nice just to be able to spend the weekend together. I really miss him during the week, we don't get much time to spend together.

Oh. Something else important to mention about our weekend. We had the new summer Sonic shakes on both Friday and Saturday. They are good! My favorite's so far are the Coconut Cream Pie and the Peanut Butter Fudge. YUM! Try one if you haven't!

I hope your weeks are off to a great start!

The Eiffel Tower Ring!

Hi darlings!

When I first started blogging, I saw several people doing link ups sharing pictures of their wedding rings, and I loved that idea! I really love looking at other people's rings and seeing the different styles there are, and the way different styles look on different people. And frankly, I just love hearing about engagements.

I have to confess, I am not one of those girls who had had her wedding planned since she was 10 years old. Before Garrett and I had talked about getting married, I actually never pictured what my wedding would look like or what kind of ring I would have. Honestly, I didn't know anything about rings. I had no idea what princess cut or any of that was.

The first time I can remember beginning to think about rings was when I was at a bachelorette party for a friend. It was a weekend thing and us girls all went to the mall and, while there, visited Tiffany's. It was then and there that I fell in love with a ring.

After looking around in Tiffany's:
{yep, I'm the tall one in the middle with BROWN hair!}

And just because some of you know both me AND Brittany:
 {she and I were both friends with the bride-to-be and had so much fun at the bachelorette party together!}

Ok. Back to that ring in Tiffany's. I tried it on. It was 2 carats and cost $44,000.
Here is a link to it and here is a picture:

Isn't it gorgeous!? That picture doesn't even do it justice. Go to the link I shared, it looks better.
I'll wait.
..
..
..
..

I got home and seriously couldn't quit talking about it. Poor Garrett. He was like, "uh...no". I mean, I didn't ask for it or anything, I just took a mental picture of it so that when we started looking I could find one similar. $44,000 is ridiculous!

So, fast forward a little bit and G and I were engagement ring shopping! WAHOO!!

I wanted to go because, other than that Tiffany's ring, I had no idea what I might even like. I narrowed it down to three and had my sister and mom go with me to see which one they liked best. There was one ring that resembled the Eiffel Tower {and the Tiffany's ring I loved!} and we all decided we liked it best. It was more expensive than the others so I let Garrett have the ultimate choice between the three.

The day he proposed, I was so surprised/happy/shocked. He chose the, as we called it, Eiffel Tower ring! I, just like now, took tons of pictures. I wish I would've had my nice camera then.

Dinner afterward at Stella's:

My ring!
{ignore the fake nails}

That was over 3 years ago and I still stare at it all the time. I am so thankful for it and for such a sweet husband to get me something so beautiful!

Link up your rings with Kelly, I would love to see them and hear about your engagements!

My Better Half and Me, and a Big Starbucks Giveaway

Hi sweet friends!

Today I have a special guest for you to meet! Her name is Morgan and she blogs over at My Better Half and Me. I have been reading Morgan's blog for awhile now and I just love her! She is funny, beautiful, and one of the sweetest people I have met. I have deemed her my "Blogging Twin" and I know that if we lived somewhat close, we would definitely be the best of friends. Maybe some day one of us can hop on a plane, or take a road trip, and actually hang out!

Morgan, I took this picture from your blog because I love it and wanted to share it, I hope that's ok!
Does she have great hair or what?

So, in order for you to get to know her a little better, I asked her a couple of questions.

1. Your blog is called My Better Half and Me, and I assume that "better half" means Jerett! How did you two meet and who initiated the relationship?

We met when we were 16 at an end of the summer party for my new high school. I had just moved to Troy, so my "Uncle" Mitch (who happens to be my same age and one of Jerett's best friends) invited me to the party with him so that I could meet some of the people. We all rode with Jerett, and halfway through the party he could tell I wasn't really having fun since I didn't know anyone. So he took me home, and drove me around Troy so I could see where all the cool "hangout spots" were and what there was to do. I asked HIM to be my boyfriend exactly a week later (what can I say I was smitten), and the rest is history! :)

 Here we are about two weeks after we met...

And here we are on our wedding day
June 4, 2011

2. You and I talk about our mutual love for Taylor Swift. {So glad to have a fellow Swifty! :)} You and I both know that she is my favorite celebrity, like, ever...who is your favorite celebrity and why?

I've always loved Taylor Swift as well, so she is definitely Top Five! Another favorite is Carrie Underwood. I've loved her since her Idol days. And Anna Kendrick is a new favorite. She is just too cute! You can read about my celebrity girl crush on her here

3. You are giving away a Starbucks gift card to one lucky gal! I must ask, since you have never been to Starbucks, what do you plan on ordering when you make a trip there to purchase your gift card?

I have absolutely NO CLUE!! I am definitely open for y'all to give me some suggestions ;)

4. If you could win a $1,000 shopping spree to one place, where would it be and why?

I LOVE Target, so I would drool over a shopping spree there! I literally get lost in a trance when I walk in that store, and I walk out having no clue what time it is or how I even got there! It's a problem... Is it just me??

5. What is a secret talent that you have that not many people know about?

Well not many of my blogging friends know that I like to sing, and some people say that I sing well :) I auditioned for American Idol Season 9, and even though I didn't make it far enough to meet Paula, Randy, and Simon I did have a blast. I've been wanting to post a video of me singing on my blog, but I'm afraid! Maybe one day... Until then, I'll keep singing in the shower!!

Here we are waiting at the Georgia Dome

Morgan is also giving away a $25 gift card to Starbucks to one lucky winner!

{Lack of} Weekend Shenanigans

Hi friends!

I wish I had something exciting to tell you about, like a weekend trip to Vegas, but I don't. The most exciting thing we did this weekend was take a trip to Whole Foods. {Lame}

I decided last week that I was going to try to start eating healthier. I want to do something similar to the Paleo diet, but not follow it hard core because, really, who is going to never eat grains, or dairy? That's crazy. Basically I just want more natural foods in my diet, you know, like fruits and veggies! I literally never eat fruits and veggies, except the occasional pickle on my cheeseburger.

Needless to say, we were lost in the produce section. It took us awhile to find the things we needed and we Garrett may have made a few altercations to a stalk of broccoli. Want an explanation? Ok.

I needed broccoli for my omelet and we just needed the florets {isn't that what the little tree part is called?}, not the entire stalk. You pay by the pound so we were being cheap and not wanting to pay for this huge stalk of broccoli when we only needed the top part.
 We wanted this:

Not this:

Garrett got creative and snapped the top part off and secretly left the stalk {and rubber band} on the shelf. Five seconds later I looked further down the shelf and there lay more broccoli, this time just the top part. Oops. I have never felt more ghetto in my life.

We left with a basket full of produce and this week I have healthy meals lined up. We will see how long it takes for me to get tired of them! This morning I had an omelet with broccoli, spinach and turkey and a side of fruit. It was ok. Want to see how disgusting it looked? Ok.

I really hope you had a more exciting weekend than we did!

PLEASE come back tomorrow, my blogging twin Morgan is going to be here and is giving away a $25 Starbucks gift card!!

Balance

My sweet friend Sybil talked about this the other day in one of her posts, and I have been thinking about it ever since. Balance.

Balance: An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady

 For such a simple definition, balance sure is an elusive little shit. For me it is anyway. I can't tell you the last time I felt like I was leading a well balanced life. I can't seem to figure it out.

Ideally my life would look like this:

Those things, family, career, health, and friends, are the very things that are important to me and that must be included to live a happy life. But in what amount?

I think the answer to that depends on the person. For instance, what seems "balanced" for me probably wouldn't seem "balanced" for you. That's the hard part. You have to figure it out for yourself.

Unfortunately, that takes some time, as well as some trial and error, and I haven't figured it out yet. Before I switched positions at work, I felt unhappy because I was working too much, for me. Now I feel unhappy because I am at home too much. Where/what is my perfect balance?

Eating junk food and watching TV makes me feel like a bum. Working out and eating healthy makes me feel like I am missing out on the tasty things in life, like cupcakes. Where's the perfect balance for me?

I wish there was a test you could take, yearly, and it would tell you the exact amount of hours you need to work before feeling burnt out, as well as the exact combination of exersize and cupcakes you should do/eat to be happy. Wouldn't that be nice?

What are some things you do to feel balanced? I'm definitely open to suggestions!

If It's On, I'm Watching It

Do you have a TV show, that no matter what, if it's on TV you will stop and watch it?

Like, your husband could be choking to death, and if any one of those TV shows are on, he had better figure out how to use a chair to do the Heimlich maneuver himself? Or, even worse, you are trying to write a blog post about these shows, and you keep getting distracted by said shows?

What? Are my priorities different than yours?
Ok, Ok, I wouldn't actually let him do the Heimlich maneuver himself. Geez. Get off my back.

And, in no particular order, here are the TV shows that will stop me dead in my tracks and tempt me to get nothing done all day:

1. The Golden Girls

I grew up watching this and I still love it as much as I did back then. I could listen to Rose talk about Saint Olaf all day, and I can only hope to look as good as Blanche thinks she does when I am that age!

2. Seinfeld

Despite the fact that Jerry Seinfeld is one of the worst actors ever, this show is so watchable! I have to admit, it took me awhile to get into it but once I did, I was hooked. No soup for you!

3. The Big Bang Theory

The first time I saw this show, I hated it. I talked bad about it every time I saw it on. Now, it's one of my favorites. It's hilarious and educational at the same time.

4. The King of Queens

Pretty much anything with Kevin James in it, I love. I think he is so cute and funny. And Carrie's grouchy side reminds me of my grouchy side. Did I just admit that? She's mean!

5. Full House

This one trumps all. I've watched it since I was little and I love it just the same now. It's funny, sweet, and has life lessons galore. How can you go wrong? Not even the cheesy you-were-just-taught-a-lesson music bothers me.

What are your favorite, mindless, you'll watch anytime, TV shows?

Oh, don't forget to enter this giveaway and meet the sweet girls participating in it if you haven't already!

Weekend Shenanigans and a Giveaway!

Hi sweeties!

Today I have two things for you!
Well, one that you will care about, and the other is my weekend recap.
{Hint: One's a giveaway!}
 If you care about both, thank you! : )

1. The Logan Panini that I got. Grilled chicken, cheese, spinach, and mayo. YUM!
2. Hellfire burger that Garrett got. Habanero sauce, fresh jalapenos, and pepper jack cheese. G was impressed.
3. Fried pickles appetizer. Can't go wrong there.
4. 2 for 1 draft beer. $6 for two Titans!
5. I did this collage backwards, but that's the place we had all of this yummy food! Govnr's Park. It was our first time here and it was delicious!
6. Free ice cream at Jason's Deli. Again.
7. Looking for vinyls at Twist & Shout.

As you can see, our weekend consisted of food and record shopping. We also watched Arrested Development and played Settlers of Catan. You know, the same 'ol same 'ol! Oh and I bought my first Dry Shampoo and a new curling iron that looks like (according to G) a strange sex toy. It's not.

Now that I got you wondering, here's a picture of it:

I have heard that these type of curling wands work great, have you ever tried one?
